July 2019

June 26, 2019 by Felicity Wright

After years of wandering about thinking about a website, playing around with Wix but never going online, registering a domain name, forgetting I registered a domain name, wishing I’d registered a domain name then being reminded that I actually did – here it finally is. A big thanks to Lukas of Skink Design who got me organised and has been schooling me up on WordPress.

Summing up my work is a challenge – but a really pleasant one. Sometimes we set out to do something and life has other plans for us. My ‘career’ has been like that. It never was a career, it was a series of unplanned opportunities that appeared in front of me. Serendipity is a favorite word.  Sometimes I chased something and couldn’t catch it, other times I stumbled over or into something momentous. Looking back over what I have been able to work on, be involved with, learned from and achieved is humbling and very satisfying.

Having four children creates constraints – as any mother/parent knows and, luckily, taking on projects that could fit around my family obligations suited me. Consulting happened because we were living in fairly remote rural South Australia from 1998 and standard employment in an area I was passionate about was not an available.

There have been some extraordinary allies along the way, generous and talented people who have been mentors, given encouragement and happily collaborated. They come from all walks of life and some journeyed with me for just a time and others have been appearing and re-appearing over the years. I have had the pleasure and privilege of meeting and working with some of Australia’s truly interesting and iconic people, including many Indigenous Australian artists and elders. Working with Indigenous people and organisations has been a joy, the owners are passionate and have long term vision for how they can collaborate to make something of lasting benefit for themselves and their communities. Many are keepers of important cultural heritage knowledge that our planet and humanity needs now more than ever. I look forward to the future.
